Cub Scout Pack 577
Cub Scouting in Pack 577 is a family oriented part of the Boy Scout program designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grades (or are 7,8 9 and 10 years old). Pack 577 was founded at Oak Grove UMC in 1967 and is supported by the church via the Oak Grove United Men’s Fellowship. Currently the Pack has 190 active Cub Scouts and over 50 adult volunteers. The boys are broken down into “dens” that meet a few times a month(typically in Scout Hall located on the church campus or a family home), and the entire Pack meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month in Fellowship Hall from 6:30 to 7:45 (September to May). Our Pack Master is David Bell and our Committee Chairman is David Tansill. Please feel free to contact either with any questions. Annual registration occurs each August.
Boy Scout Troop 77
In early 1950, members of the Oak Grove UMC Community saw a need for the youth program to help with character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness. The Boy Scouts of America granted a Charter to the Church on May 31, 1950 for Troop 77. Today the Oak Grove UMC Men's Fellowship sponsors Boy Scout Troop 77. The Troop averages nearly 100 Scouts and reaches all parts of the Community. Over the past 50 years, thousands of boys have enjoyed the Oak Grove UMC's Scouting program, with several hundred Scouts earning the Eagle Scout Award. Our Scoutmaster is Brad Gilmer and our Committee Chairman is Jim Penland. Please feel free to contact either with any questions.
Girl Scouting
While Oak Grove Church does not sponsor a Girl Scout Troop, we recognize that many girls within our faith community are benefited by being a part of such groups. We celebrate this indirect relationship we have with Girl Scouting and are blessed by the contribution of individual girls scouts and their families, within our congregation.
