Music Ministry
The Music and Drama Ministries welcome one and all to get involved. Please look at the opportunities listed below and contact someone on the Ministry Team to get the most out of Oak Grove UMC.
The Chancel Choir sings at every 11:00 Worship Service and provides music for special events including World Communion Sunday, Advent Service of Word and Song, A Festival of Lessons and Carols, Palm Sunday, and a pop music program each year at the Midweek Diner. The choir also enjoys several social events each year! Membership in Chancel Choir is open year round. Janet Johnson directs this adult choir which rehearses in the Choir Room on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm except for designated weeks during the summer. The Sanctuary Singers sing at the 8:30 Worship Service and participate in several combined performances with the Chancel Choir. This ensemble rehearses in the Choir Room on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30pm most weeks throughout the year. and is directed by Dr. Susan Matteson. New members are welcome! The 9:35 Praise Band leads the 9:35 Alive Service each Sunday morning in the Fellowship Hall. Stacy Walker is the leader and pianist for the group. For more information, contact Stacy at 770-722-2735 or stacy(at)stacymarie.net.
The Wesley Ringers are a talented group of handbell ringers that rehearse Sundays from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Room 202. Janet Johnson directs this accomplished group that performs four to six times each year for 8:30 and 11:00 worship. The Wesley Ringers do not rehearse during the summer. The Orchestra is directed by Bucky Johnson, who also coordinates guest musicians. The orchestra rehearses on Thursdays and performs approximately once a month at both the 8:30 and 11:00 services. The Youth Choir is a dynamic group of student singers in grades 6 -12. Join us! The choir is directed by Janet Johnson and rehearses on Sunday afternoons from 5 – 5:55pm in the Choir Room on the second floor of the main building. The Children’s Music Ministry is directed by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. The five, graded choirs are divided by age and rehearse on Wednesday nights from September through May. The choirs perform at worship services and the Midweek Diner; the choirs join to sing for special Christmas and Spring concerts.
